In November 2016 NEST Centre organised a week long benchmarking tour to Baltic countries; Estoria, Lithuania and Latvia.
The tour was a part of the project ”Nordic-Baltic perspectives on globalization and studies of foreign languages in upper secondary schools in Finland, Estonia and Lithuania”. It has been kindly funded By the Nordic-Baltic mobility programme of Nordic Ministry Council.
In the tour, there were 8 participants who are teachers and principals from NEST Network Schools in Eastern Finland. The programme consisted of visits to upper secondary schools and relevant organizations in Tallinn, Tartu, Vilnius, Kaunas and Siauliai. Main objectives of the tour were
- to exchange information related to the implemented activities and further developments in international cooperation and foreign language studies in the Nordic-Baltic upper secondary schools
- to identify good practices and to share best of them among participating organizations
- to create new networks of schools and experts to be utilized in future international cooperative initiatives
- to promote wide potential of Nordic-Baltic cooperation in secondary education
The Estonian schools were recommended by the Language policy department at the Estonian Ministry of Education and Research. Similarly, the Lithuanian schools arerecommended by the General Education Programs Unit at the Education Exchanges Support Foundation. Each participant of the tour was responsible for writing a part of a project report which will be published in few parts in this blog. Maybe it will give some ideas for school cooperation in Baltic regions.
